Half-Masked: 024-I Am A Hypocrite{(sorta) Special Edition}

There used to be about 5 extra panels of horrible blather no one cared about, so those are gone.

I remember this was made around when Penny Arcade stopped doing their annual “We’re Right” awards. I always wanted to do something like that, but I have a hard time finding the money to keep up with the games and movies and such that come out in the span of a year. In fact, I still have 2007’s list to do…

I also don’t know why I like those personal lists of the best/worst/weirdest things to happen in the last year, yet I hate it when award shows do it. Maybe because when people do it in blogs, it’s a personal opinion, and doesn’t feel like they’re trying to cram it down my throat as undisputed fact. Award shows make it seem so arrogant and final. “This was my favourite movie last year” seems a little more reasonable than “This is the BEST MOVIE BECAUSE WE SAY SO. Not to mention the fact that rarely does one person’s blog or comic amount to an evening of wasteful extravagance, and rich white-people high-fiving each other. That’s all an award show is. Just a big circle-jerk at The Gap.

I don’t know. I guess I prefer making my own opinions and reading the opinions of others, as opposed to having some shadowy committee of soccer-moms and rich, old white assholes make my opinions for me. I don’t watch the Oscars, the Emmies, the Golden Globes, or any of those retarded award shows where teenagers vote to decide the winner. As if everything else about them weren’t bad enough, they always have to show you shots of insincere smiles from assholes in the seats. It’s enough to make me want to fuck a fire-hydrant out of protest.

The only remotely plausible award show I can think of would be the Game Developer’s Choice Awards, and even they manage to fail on an epic level now and then. Gears of War and KOTOR as Game of the Year? Are you fucking kidding me? That’s like Howie Mandel getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

And for anyone interested, here were my favourite things of 2005:

  • Yangus from DQ VIII
  • Final Fantasy IV for the GBA
  • Hearing there would be a Tron level in Kingdom Hearts II
  • Peter Jackson’s King Kong
  • And a little something I paid tribute to in the next comic…

END OF LINE
