Thursday, September 11th, 2008There is an interview on Eurogamer with Lee Musgrave about the upcoming “Avatars”, the 360’s answer to Mii’s. It can be summed up as: “No, dude, we totally had the idea first you guys, they just got there faster”.
Really? Avatars were around longer than Mii’s in the “gaming scene”? I take it this was before this screenshot of Mii prototypes in NES technology 20 years ago when Nintendo was planning to use them? About 15 years before Microsoft even had a console to put this Avatar idea into?
Maybe in the next interview with Lee, he’ll claim Rare had the idea of a portable game system, several years before the company he works for even existed.
I know it sucks to be second(third, really) in line to this sort of thing, but making shit up to make yourself look like a pioneer isn’t going to make the reality that they beat you to the punch any easier to accept. And it certainly isn’t going to help your PR, let alone help you play catch-up.
