Squiggly-Squiggly
Friday, November 28th, 2008I’m sure this isn’t the first time this has happened, but our rampant, rabid holiday consumerism has killed someone. Now I know what you’re thinking:
“Wal-Mart employees aren’t people!”.
Astute observation. Nonetheless, I’m still not letting this one off the hook.
I’m trying to visualize the thoughts and rationale of these people, as they stepped on someone until he ceased to exist. I can picture one such member of the swarm, as his or her shoes met the employee’s skull:
“I absolutely have to get an ironic t-shirt, Wall*E on DVD, and the new Call of Duty at this hour of the night, before those other guys, even if it means trampling someone to death. It’s not like they’ll re-stock those things later, when I’ll probably have the money to afford them at their pricing as per the norm. Nope, this is the last chance in the history of ever to buy something for a mildly cheaper cost to me! Off I go, to disregard the safety of those around me because everyone else is doing it!”
Although, maybe Call of Duty is a bad example. Wal-Mart sells a near limitless variety of everyday, household appliances and doo-dads, and it’s kind of cliched at this point to involve video games with news stories of people dying, so let’s offer a different analogy: How about “teh musix”? I mean, I don’t keep up with the music scene too often, but the latest CD by the Jonas Brothers must be pretty damned good if a bargain on such a purchase is worth helping murder someone.
I hope a 34-year old man’s life was worth the temporary discount, shoppers(you collective testament to mankind, you). I understand the holidays are-a fast-approaching, and you want to get a good deal on tube-socks, or that new Hannah Montannah Nuclear Reactor, but is a little fucking restraint too much to ask? I hope the blood on your hands makes that new mp3 player that much more special. And when Christmas morn arrives, what child wouldn’t want the knowledge that their new Xbox came at the cost of a human life? A reminder every time they turn it on, that someone out there DIED so their parents(and the rest of a mob of people with disposable income) could save some money.
BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT’S IMPORTANT FOR US AS A PEOPLE! =D
This was going to be a post about how I’m going to try and bring a more positive balance to the tone of this website… Funny how things work out, aren’t they?
